Sharon Phelan Tralee 3 Local artist, Sharon Phelan was invited to perform at the International Anapale Dance Festival 2018 in the Dora Stratou Amphitheatre in Athens. This festival was under the auspices of the International Dance Council. The Dora Stratou theatre is opposite the Acropolis and it has celebrated folk dance for hundreds of years. Unique in the world, it is one of the finest living museums in Greece. Sharon’s piece was inspired by the earlier poetry of Séamus Heaney. She opened her performance through song and she continued using Heaney’s recorded voice and traditional music as forms of accompaniment. When she danced, her dance style was particular to the Molyneaux dance tradition of North Kerry. She said “I was proud to reflect our literary heritage and regional dance tradition during such a unique occasion”. Sharon lectures in Performing Arts at IT Tralee.
